While browsing the archives of the University of California, I found a copy of the abortive plan to extend the New York City subway to New Jersey in the late 1950s. At the time, the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad, forerunner to the modern PATH subway, was still under private ownership, and it was proposed that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey or a new bi-state agency take over both the subways and the Hudson & Manhattan.
