The Lost Subways of North America - Canada
Canadian cities tend to have better-preserved city cores than their U.S. counterparts. This is not because they kept their rail systems. (With the exception of Toronto, all Canadian cities shut down their streetcar networks.) Rather, it's because Canadian cities were far less aggressive about urban freeways in the mid-20th century.
